I was born and brought up on a farm in Malawi and went to school in what was then, Rhodesia. I completed a Diploma in Nursing after school, which eventually led me to settle in Cape Town, where we lived for close on 27 years, other than a 5-year stint in Jakarta, Indonesia. Last year, I got married again, and we are now living in Klipriver, south of Johannesburg.
My African upbringing and the freedom we enjoyed as children has greatly influenced my appreciation for the beauty and vastness of the African landscape and skies. I have always felt humbled by the infinite palette of colour, and the vast canvas that surrounds us. So too am I inspired by the fragility and expression of humankind and all these form the basis of a lot of my subject material.
Although I have had no formal tuition, I have always been involved in artistic endeavours, and started concentrating on painting 12 years ago. I was under the guidance and mentorship of Leonie Turck and Tim Johnson, both well-known and accomplished Cape Town artists. When Leonie retired I was honoured to have been asked by her to take over her art school and taught WATERCOLOURS up until the time that I left Cape Town.
I paint for the pleasure and satisfaction of it, love doing commissions, and my paintings can be found throughout Africa, South Africa, China, Australia, France and UK.
I have taken part in many successful group exhibitions, the Annual Leonie Turck, Exhibition, Artists of the South, Simonsberg Fine Art, Fish Hoek Art Society and STAG. I also organised and ran various exhibitions for other art groups as well as for my own art school.
